Hello my sweets, missed me? Well, rightfully so. I’m in a relationship now. I’m busy.
“Oh, you wanted to see me today? Sorry, I’m in a relationship”. Haha! Obsessed! Immediately yes!
“Hey, I like your skirt.”
“Thank you. I’m in a relationship.”
“Hello, please where can I find a washroom?”
“I’m in a relationship!”
“Is this the Econ class?”
“Yes, I’m in a relationship!”
Ah love! Sweet love. Three legends sang a song and said “sometimes love comes around, then it knocks you down just get back up when it knocks you down”. Yes, Ne-Yo. Indeed, no lies were told. Who’d ever thought I would be in love like this?
It should be illegal how Sly and I just go together.
To the single readers, get ready. I’m about to tension you till there’s nothing left.
But today, I shall have mercy. Besides there’s some important happenings you need to know. Are you ready? Okay, let’s go!
Boateng is all types of messy. Sometimes I wonder, how can one so beautiful be so messy? When I got back from my date with Sly, I was so happy, I cried as I narrated the story to Mara and Lara. They were so thrilled for me.
“Oh my gosh, you guys are already such goals” Lara cooed.
“IKR” Mara chimed in.
We giggled excitedly over the gifts and Lara mentioned that she would expect nothing less from Kwame from here on out. There’s this movie titled “Deliver Us from Eva”. Gabrielle Union was in such a healthy relationship that her sisters held their men to a higher standard. As it should be. Let Sly and I be the Eva and Raymond to your messy love lives.
Anyway, I digress.
The next day, I knew I had to tell Boateng. It was absolutely important that I do so because I didn’t want him to be blindsided. You see, that’s what sensible people do, Boateng. They don’t surprise their friends with this information from another person and make them look like jealous besties. Yes, I’m still pressed about December and Marilyn.
Moving on. I texted him that I’d like to see him and he texted back that it was a good idea I come over because he was excited to talk to me about something too. I wondered what it was. Perhaps his parents had magically found a way to reconcile their differences. That would be great! Great for him but not so great for his mother, of course.
I damn near skipped my way to Boateng’s room, excited to give him my good news. I knew he wouldn’t be too happy but at least he’d have to pretend that he was, because I was happy. Lord knows how many times I have pretended to like his girlfriends; even Farida.
He ushered me in excitedly and led me to his bed. Get your mind out of the gutter by the way. He then went into his locker to pick up something. He was beaming from ear to ear. He emerged with what looked like two tickets in his hand. He smiled at me expectantly.
I looked puzzled.
“It’s vouchers to Aqua Marina Resort. It’s for a weekend. My father got it for me. He said I could take a friend or a special person and I thought to myself that you satisfy both.”
“Boateng, I…”
“Before you freak out, it’s two separate rooms. Besides it’s not like we’ve not shared a room before.”
“I…” I stuttered. His face fell and he came to sit on the bed next to me.
“Boateng, I don’t think this is appropriate at all.”
“Why?”. He was genuinely confused.
“Because you have a girlfriend. Marilyn, remember? How does it look taking your female bestie to a resort when you have a girlfriend?”
“I don’t think it matters. Besides, you’ve been pestering me about that resort for a long time. Remember? There are two separate rooms. I think it’s not that deep.”
“Except that it is. I also don’t think Sly would be happy about that. He’s my boyfriend now.”
Boateng rolled his eyes and stood to his feet when I mentioned Sly’s name and almost tripped over his desk when I added the extra information.
“Seriously? Since when?”
“Since last night. I came here to tell you about it. Boateng, it was so amazing. Last night was literally a dream. I…”
“Wait. I don’t understand. Araba are you sure about this? Don’t you think that you’re rushing?”
“Rushing?” I chuckled, “Boateng, you’re one to talk. You literally date girls two weeks after meeting them. Sly and I have known each other for a while and before we decided to commit, we took like two more months to see if it works.”
“I don’t know, Araba. I’m just not comfortable with this.”
I stood to my feet annoyed. “Well, I don’t need you to be comfortable. I’ve supported every single one of your relationships. The least you can do is return the favor.”
I headed for the door and turned around and said “and in the name of that support, give those vouchers to Marilyn. she really cares about you and this relationship. Put in some effort.” With that I opened the door and left.
My heart was beating violently in my chest as I walked away. What for? I had done nothing wrong. If anything, I had done everything right. But in life you come to learn that doing the right thing doesn’t always feel good. I felt this feeling many times and walked this very walk many times.
Boateng took my advice and gave the tickets to a very excited Marilyn. She was way too in love for her own good.
She didn’t realize that she was the second option for the vouchers and many unruly thoughts flowed through her mind as a result. Valentine’s Day had just ended. They’d been going out for a couple of months too. It would make sense that Boateng wanted the “you know what”.
He hadn’t asked for it yet and after her interaction with that girl that planted the seeds of doubt, it only made sense that that was what the vouchers meant. If there was one person she was ready to risk it all for, it was Boateng. She wanted this to work. Very badly. That right there, was her problem.
Boateng got to the resort a disturbed man. I should tell you why he was disturbed but I would be lying if I said I understood it. He was just unhappy that I was with Sly and why? Why was he so pressed?
Marilyn on the other hand got to the resort as a woman with a plan. She’d visited a lingerie shop at the mall and spent a good amount of money on some underwear. As they drove to the venue, she wore it under her clothes. Their itinerary for the evening would be a dinner and then afterwards, she would be serving dessert.
This is so funny. Excuse me a moment.
Oh my! You should see me wiping my tears now. I feel really sad for her. Just picture her squirming in her seat as the lingerie pantie rides up her butthole in discomfort. What was all this for? This is not an episode of Fifty Shades, sis. You really could have worn normal clothes.
They got to the night and as they walked to their rooms, Marilyn’s heart was thumping in her chest. Boateng probably had experience but she, not so much.
“Do you want to watch a movie before we get to bed?” Boateng asked innocently. Bad move, bro. Marilyn took that as her signal. This was her moment. He was asking for it so explicitly he might as well have shouted in the hallway “are you going to sleep with me tonight or not?”.
It didn’t help that Marina had ambient lights that were on in the room when they entered. Boateng opened the laptop and set it up while Marilyn excused herself to the bathroom to take off her clothes.
“What movie do you want to watch? I have this one that’s about some heist” Boateng shouted over his shoulder. There was no response but when he turned around, he found Marilyn standing in front of the door in the most provocative lingerie he’d ever seen. actually, the only lingerie he'd ever seen. Rather than being excited, he was astonished.
“Marilyn, what are you doing?” Boateng asked.
