He smiled when he saw me coming but it quickly vanished when he saw the look on my face. I looked like I’d seen a ghost and was about to faint.

“Is there something you have to tell me? Anything at all?” I asked. I was holding back vomit. I didn’t see that Aseda had come up behind me, standing a bit off in the corner.

“Are you okay? Do you not feel fine?” he asked. The others looked at me puzzled.

“Are you sure there’s nothing you want to tell me?”

“No” he said, searching my face to try and figure out what was going on.

“Really? Because Aseda had a lot to say.”

With her name being called, she came into view. Boateng looked at her then at me. A look of realization flashed across his face. The others looked between us three in confusion. Lara also caught on quickly. “Oh shit!” she mumbled under her breath.

“I want to throw up” I said, grabbing my stomach. Lara moved closer to me to offer support.

“I can explain” Boateng began.

“So, all the things you said about waiting and liking me. All those things was it just guilt?”

“I was upset. I wasn’t thinking.”

I raised my voice now.

“You said you’d wait for me. I asked you and you said you’d wait for me. You said it. No one forced you to say it.”

Boateng bowed his head in shame. “I…it…”

“I didn’t mean to cause any trouble” Aseda started to say before Lara cut her off. “I think you need to leave”. Aseda hesitated. “Young lady, you speak English, right?” Mara asked incredulously. Aseda finally took the hint and turned around to leave.

“Two years of therapy and you’re still the same. I’m such a fool” I said bitterly.

I could tell the others were unsure whether to leave. “Maybe we should go” Kwame started to say. Carl didn’t even try pretending that he was going to.

“You’re still the same pathetic loser who thinks with his dick and not his head. You just couldn’t wait to sling it around, could you? You knew how I felt about her and yet you still went there. Of all the people, her!”

I could tell that my words were slicing him but I didn’t care.

“I was literally waiting for you but I have feelings too. Me hearing that you were talking to your ex and going out with this random guy, it made me mad. It wasn’t fair.”

I scoffed. “At least I never had sex with any of them.”

“I know I’m not perfect and I probably shouldn’t have but we weren’t together. You clearly had no loyalties to me. You can’t make it out like I cheated or something. I didn’t.”

“You make me sick” I said with disgust.

He looked like I had shot him.

“This, whatever this is or was. Whatever was going on here, it’s done. It’s clear you’re never going to change. This was why I was afraid to get with you in the first place because the real you always has to happen. I guess today it’s my turn. I wonder who the next girl is.”

“Araba…”

“We are done.”

I turned and walked away with Lara and Mara following behind.
